I do not give grades. Students earn them. Every Student begins every marking period with an A+ or E. This grade is theirs to keep or theirs to lose. Before all assignments, I list the objective or goal. For every graded project, students receive a criteria chart and/ or rubric. Students are well prepared for tests and are allowed to use resources.
Students who have fallen behind on their work can log in from home to make up any missed assignments or work on extension projects. I want all my kids to be successful. I am more than willing to be flexible in my approach to make that happen. However, students need to take responsibility and ownership of their learning. I have never known a student to fail who put forth sincere, sustained effort, and communicated with me when they needed help.
Because I am now part of the Title I program I can no longer issue standard grades of A, B, C, D and F. My Grading Scale is E for Excellent, P for Proficient, D for Developing, and B for Beginning. The grades students receive in Technology Class do not figure into their GPA.
To see how I determine grades that are not quizzes check out the corresponding rubric on the Policy Page. For Quizzes, I want you to learn the information, not earn a grade. Therefore, you are allowed to retake the quiz until you get a grade you want. I recommend you do not settle for less than 80%.
